Terms · October 28, 2026

Plain terms for a small fish.

Lary is independent, local-first macOS software owned and published by Daniel Holden. These terms apply when you download or use a public build.

Personal-use license

You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download, install, and use Lary for personal, non-commercial purposes on Macs you control. The software is licensed, not sold. You may make ordinary backups needed to use it.

Ownership

Copyright © 2026 Daniel Holden. Lary’s original code, artwork, writing, product identity, and packaged assets remain the owner’s property. Your journal entries, aquarium exports, notes, and other content you create remain yours. These terms do not transfer ownership of your content to Lary.

Limits

Unless applicable law expressly allows it, you may not sell, sublicense, rent, republish, redistribute, remove ownership notices from, or use Lary or its assets to create a competing distributed product. You may not use the software to violate law, invade privacy, harm a person or system, or defeat platform security. Nothing here restricts rights that cannot legally be restricted.

Connections and permissions

Lary can use protected macOS capabilities and third-party services only for features you choose. You are responsible for having authority to connect the calendar, mail, messages, contacts, music, location, and devices you select. Apple, macOS, Open-Meteo, email providers, carriers, and other services are governed by their own terms and availability.

Privacy

The privacy policy explains local storage, optional connections, diagnostics, retention, and deletion. Do not use Lary on a shared device for sensitive information unless the device account and storage are appropriately protected.

Not professional advice

Lary’s mood, focus, reflection, weather, aquarium-care, and assistant features are informational and recreational. They are not medical, mental-health, legal, financial, emergency, or professional advice. Do not rely on Lary for urgent or safety-critical communication.

Updates and availability

Features may change, be corrected, or be discontinued. Updates may require a newer supported macOS release. Lary may suspend a connection or release when reasonably necessary for security, privacy, legal compliance, or maintenance.

No warranty

To the maximum extent applicable law permits, Lary is provided “as is” and “as available,” without express or implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, or error-free results. Statutory consumer rights that cannot be waived remain unaffected.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent applicable law permits, the owner is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, opportunities, or access arising from Lary. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Lary during the prior twelve months or US $25. This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law.

Ending use

You may stop using Lary at any time and erase its local data from Settings. The license ends if you materially violate these terms; ownership, warranty, liability, and provisions that by their nature should continue will survive.

Distribution region and changes

Lary may be downloaded worldwide where lawful, but it is currently offered in U.S. English and may not be available or suitable in every region. Material term changes will be dated and published on this page. Continuing to use a later version after notice means the updated terms apply to that later use.
